Former Malibu home of Barry Manilow gets a makeover, with $16.75-million price tag
Crooner Barry Manilow once made his home on Old Malibu Road in an oceanfront compound now up for sale.
The contemporary-style home was purchased by the singer-songwriter in 2002 for about $3.55 million and sold a decade later for $5.45 million. Now, following a top-down remodel by Darren Domingue of Domicile Design, it’s on the market again at $16.75 million — nearly three times the previous sale price.
Entered through a walled and gated courtyard, the house opens to a foyer with a salt-water aquarium. A long hallway leads to a step-down living room with a fireplace and walls of glass that center on unobstructed views of the Pacific.
Other common areas include an office/den, a family room and a powder room. The chef’s kitchen — with modern fixtures, two small islands and an ornate tiled backsplash — flows into an ocean-view dining area.
Upstairs, sliding walls of glass in the master suite open to a private balcony. Including a detached guesthouse above the garage, there are five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms in more than 4,200 square feet of space.
A lounge with a fire feature, an above-ground spa and an outdoor dining area sit between the main and guest houses. At the rear of the home, a wide terrace sits above the sand, while a private staircase leads down to the beach below.
