Before the Clippers played against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 3 of their playoff series Friday night, Coach Doc Rivers praised the NBA’s decision to appoint Richard Parsons as the club’s interim CEO.

“This morning we talked, and it was really nice,” said Rivers. “I don’t know Dick very well, but from what I’ve heard from everyone who knows him, and from talking to him today, I think it’s a very good hire for us.”

Parsons, who was announced as the Clippers’ chief executive earlier in the day, is formerly a chairman with Citigroup and Time Warner. He’ll represent the Clippers as the franchise goes through the process of finding a new owner on the heels of NBA Commissioner handing down a lifetime ban to current owner Donald Sterling.

Rivers has yet to meet Parsons, but he’s looking forward to having new leadership on the business side of the organization.

“I don’t know market and sponsorships, or any of that stuff,” said Rivers. “The basketball part, that’s going to take care of itself.”

In addition to coaching, Rivers serves as the Clippers’ senior vice president of basketball operations.

While Rivers would like to see the ownership issue resolved quickly, he’s well aware there’s a long road ahead.

“It’s still a very murky situation, and I don’t think that’s going to change for a while,” he said. “From my standpoint, we’re focusing on basketball. ... If something comes up, then you just deal with it.”

Heading into Game 3, the Clippers and Thunder are tied at one win apiece in the best-of-seven series.
