TV ratings: ‘Under the Dome’ falls in Week 2; ‘Masterchef’ wins

Only one of seven teams on Fox’s “Masterchef” won this week’s challenge, but the show beat out all broadcast television competition Monday night in the key young-adults demographic as “Under the Dome” cooled in this season’s second episode.

Gordon Ramsay’s competitive cooking reality show earned a rating of 1.9 among the advertiser-desired 18-to-49-year-old viewers, flat with last week’s episode, according to preliminary numbers from Nielsen.

That was enough to beat CBS’ science-fiction summer series “Under the Dome,” which fell 19% from last week’s season premiere to a 1.7 in 18-49, marking the series’ lowest rating ever. “Under the Dome,” based on a novel by Stephen King, was the fourth-highest rated telecast by that measure, dipping below ABC’s “Bachelorette” and NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior.”

However, “Under the Dome” was still the top show in overall viewership, averaging 7.71 million people watching.

Meanwhile, NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” telecast drew 5.4 million viewers overall in its two-hour 9-11 p.m. time slot for its biggest audience so far this season and earned a 1.8 in the 18-49 demo.

ABC’s “The Bachelorette” also saw a boost in viewers, with an average of 6.8 million viewers and a rating of 1.8.
