TV ratings: ‘American Ninja Warrior, ‘MasterChef’ tie in key demo

Competition shows won over viewers on Labor Day.

According to Nielsen, Fox culinary competition show “MasterChef” and NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” tied for the most viewed program among the key 18-to-49-year-old demographic. Both shows earned a rating of 1.9 in the key demo.

About 5.4 million viewers tuned in to Gordon Ramsay’s culinary competition show. Also on the network, Ramsay’s “Hotel Hell” dropped to a rating of 1.3 in the key demo.

Meanwhile, “American Ninja Warrior,” up 6% from its most recent original episode, on Aug. 18, drew about 5.8 million viewers overall.

NBC also aired “Running Wild with Bear Grylls,” which earned a 0.9 in the key demo. About 3.9 million viewers tuned in to the telecast, which was down 18% from its most recent original episode, on Aug. 18.

Fox and NBC shared the honors for top network of the night among the desired demo, averaging a rating of 1.6.

Though it tied its series low, CBS’ “Under the Dome” was the holiday night’s most watched program, with about 6.2 million viewers. It was second among the key demo, with a rating of 1.2.

On ABC, “Bachelor in Paradise” was down 8% from last week, with a rating of 1.2. The reality show held steady with about 4.7 million viewers.

The season finale of the network’s show “Mistresses” earned a rating of 0.8, down 27% from last year’s finale, which earned a rating of 1.1.
