Shawn Ryan among new board members elected to Writers Guild

Shawn Ryan, the screenwriter and former showrunner of the long-running TV series “The Shield,” is among the new board members of the Writers Guild of America, West.

Ryan, who served on the union’s negotiating committee during recent contract negotiations, was elected to a two-year term on the board. He captured 67% of ballots cast, the highest among 17 candidates for nine board seats available, the guild announced Tuesday night.

Also elected as new board members are Aaron Mendelsohn, Jonathan Fernandez and Peter Lefcourt, who will serve a one-year term filling the vacancy left by the resignation of David Goyer.

Incumbents Katherine Fugate, Chip Johannessen, Scott Alexander, Marjorie David and Michael Oates Palmer were reelected to the board.

A total of 1,835 valid ballots were cast in an election supervised by Votenet Solutions. This year for the first time guild members, who number about 8,000, had the option of casting their ballots online.
