TV ratings: ‘DWTS’ finale helps ABC top Tuesday; NBC takes hits

Share

The TV ratings mirror ball for Tuesday goes to ABC.

As reality vet “Dancing With the Stars” closed its season on Tuesday night, it helped ABC win the night. The series closed out on top with a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 15.8 million viewers overall from 9 to 11 p.m — making it the No. 1 show of the night. The turnout lifted the show 21% from last year’s finale and made it the highest-rated episode since September 2013.

The dancing showdown kept CBS at bay in second place.

CBS’ “NCIS” was down a bit from the previous week with a 2.4 in the key demo and 15.69 million viewers in its 8 p.m. slot but pulled ahead in its slot over “The Voice” for the first time this season (both shows tied last week). “NCIS: New Orleans” and “Person of Interest” were on par with the previous week’s episodes with a 2.3 and a 1.7 rating in the demo, respectively.

NBC didn’t fare quite as well heading into the Thanksgiving holiday. After taking a hit with “The Voice” on Monday, the network took another punch with Tuesday’s showing. “The Voice” registered a 2.3 rating among adults 18-49 — marking a first-run series low for the singing competition.

The NBC comedy “Marry Me” also clocked a series low with a 1.1 rating in the demo and 3.8 million viewers; “About a Boy” garnered a 1.0 rating in the demo. “Chicago Fire” closed the night on the peacock network with 1.6 in the demo, down slight from last week, and 6 million viewers.

Overall, the network took third with 1.6 average in the 18-49 demo and 6.2 million total viewers.

On Fox, “MasterChef Junior” was down a smidge with 1.5 in the demo and 4 million viewers. “New Girl” dipped slightly from last week with a 1.3 rating in the demo; “The Mindy Project” stayed even with a 1.1 rating.

On the CW, “The Flash” showed some gusto after hitting its lowest ratings last week. The freshman superhero drama brought in a 1.4 rating in the key demo, ahead of lead-in “Supernatural,” which brought in a 0.9 in adults 18-49.
