One dead, 2 injured in shooting near Koreatown

A man was killed and two women were injured in a possible gang-related shooting near Koreatown early Sunday, police said.

A man and two women were sitting in an SUV when they were approached by a suspect, who shot at them, said Sgt. Marvin Mancia of the Los Angeles Police Department. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the women had non-life-threatening injuries, he said.

The male suspect was struck by a vehicle as he was running away from the scene, Mancia said.

HOMICIDE REPORT: A story for every victim

Officers were near the intersection of Vermont and Wilshire when they heard shots fired about 12:20 a.m., said LAPD Officer Rosario Herrera. They drove toward the gunfire and were directed to the suspect as he was running away, she said. He was then arrested, she said.

No additional details about the suspect or the victims was available.

In the last 12 months, there have been seven other homicides, four of them shootings, within one mile of the incident, according to The Times’ Homicide Report database.
