About 30 homes were evacuated in Norwalk on Tuesday evening after a man armed with a rifle and wearing a bullet-proof vest barricaded himself inside a residence at a mobile home park.

The 38-year-old suspect is on federal probation for bank robbery and pointed the weapon at law enforcement authorities as they swooped down on the scene in the 12000 block of Rosecrans Avenue, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

The standoff began around 4:30 p.m. when U.S. Marshals and local police attempted to arrest the suspect. Authorities said there was at least one other man inside the home.
