Window washers rescued; stranded for hours on Irvine high-rise

Two window washers stuck for hours near the top of a 19-story Irvine high-rise have been pulled to safety by members of a search-and-rescue team.

It was unclear how the workers became stuck on the side of the office building near the San Diego Freeway. Authorities said neither worker was injured.

The window washers were stuck for nearly three hours on their platform outside the building about 17 stories up, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said.

Crews on the roof of the building lowered firefighters strapped to harnesses to the platform so they could hoist up the workers, Concialdi said.

Dozens of firefighters including urban search-and-rescue teams responded to the scene at 4 Park Plaza about 9:30 a.m. when the Fire Department received word that the workers needed help, according to Concialdi.
