An earlier version of this post, citing information from the fire department, placed the brush fire in Woodlands Hills. It is closer to Van Nuys.

Erik Scott, a spokesman for the L.A. Fire Department, described the area as “thick brush.” The Los Angeles River flows nearby.

Between eight and 10 acres burned, according to Scott, but no structures were damaged, Scott said.

TV news footage showed high flames and thick black smoke. Helicopters were dropping water on the burning area.
