Authorities received a 911 call about 1:15 p.m. from a man who said that his wife had called and told him that a cousin was inside their home threatening to shoot her and their two children.

The husband told authorities the cousin was armed with a shotgun. Deputies said they spoke with the suspect repeatedly and tried to convince him to leave the home.

But he continued to threaten the woman and the two children, as well officers. Deputies were able to see inside the home and confirm that he was armed with a shotgun, the sheriff’s department said.

SWAT arrived and continued to negotiate with the man.

At some point the barricaded man was shot by deputies and pronounced dead at the scene. No additional details, such as what time the man was shot or what led up to the killing, were released.

The deceased woman’s gunshot wound was consistent with the weapon the man had, authorities said. The children were not injured and were reunited with their father after being examined by medical personnel at the scene.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, deputies said.
