A man was fatally shot at a Metro Blue Line station Friday morning in Compton during a fight, authorities said.

Authorities say two men got into a brawl about 8:42 a.m. on an exit ramp at the Metro Artesia Blue Line station in the 1900 block of South Acacia Court, when one of them pulled out a handgun.

He shot the other man and ran away, according to Deputy Guillermina Saldaña of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Despite being wounded the injured man was able to chase the person who shot him, who turned around and fired several more shots at him.

An armed Metro security guard saw the shooting and fired a round at the gunman as he ran away.

Authorities don’t know if the gunman was hurt during the shooting.

The injured man was found Friday morning on a pedestrian walkway at the train station, said Ramon Montenegro, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau.

He was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and pronounced dead at 9:20 a.m., he said.

The shooting caused Metro to suspend its Blue Line service at the Artesia station, and the agency requested bus shuttles for passengers.

Transit deputies had responded to all Blue Line stations after receiving a report of a man with a gun, Montenegro said.

They did not find the gunman, but they found the shooting victim. His identity has not been released.

Authorities say the gunman was last seen running north along the railroad tracks.
