Water main break floods part of Beverly Hilton, closes roads

A water main break Tuesday night in Beverly Hills has closed a section of the westbound lanes of Santa Monica Boulevard and flooded part of the Beverly Hilton, authorities said.

The break was reported about 9 p.m. near Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevard, said Officer Renato Moreno with the Beverly Hills Police Department.

No one was injured and there were no evacuations.

Part of an underground vault at the hotel that houses generators had flooded, Moreno said, and Beverly Hills firefighters were pumping water out of the area.

The Beverly Hilton was one of four customers in the area without electricity, according to the Southern California Edison Co. The power was expected to be restored at 2:15 a.m.

Irine Spivak, a spokeswoman for the hotel, said no guest areas were affected by the water break. However a loading dock and back areas of the Beverly Hilton were affected.

“The hotel is returning to normal operations,” Spivak said. “The safety and security of our guests remains our top priority.”

Moreno said one lane of westbound Santa Monica Boulevard could be opened soon.
