The driver of an SUV was killed early Saturday after his vehicle plunged into the Oakland Estuary, authorities said.

Colburn said witnesses reported seeing the SUV speeding through a parking lot before it plunged into the estuary, the strait that separates the cities of Oakland and Alameda.

The victim was identified only as an adult male, Colburn said, and his death remains under investigation.
