Locol, the new restaurant from chefs Roy Choi and Daniel Patterson near the corner of Wilmington Avenue and East 103rd Street in Watts, had quite the opening Monday.

The eatery is being billed as a place for inexpensive, quality food in a part of Los Angeles often known as "fast-food central." Residents for years have called for more healthy fare. This has become a major priority for officials in South Los Angeles. In 2003, nearby Compton, which officials described as a "food desert" with little access to healthful and affordable foods, got a farmers market.

Among those who showed up Monday were actress Lena Dunham, Mayor Eric Garcetti and hundreds of residents from Watts and all over Southern California. Here's how it looked on social media:
