Alleged kidnappers, rapist arrested after Pomona police stop

A routine traffic stop by police in Pomona proved more fruitful than anyone expected when officers found a gun, a suspected rape and kidnapping victim, her alleged attacker and arrested three men in connection with her abduction, officials reported.

The investigation began Friday about 5:15 p.m. when officers with a Pomona major crimes task force tried to pull a car over in the 1700 block of Gillette Road for an unspecified traffic violation.

Instead of stopping, the driver briefly tried to speed off and a gun was thrown from the car, Pomona police said in a news release. When the vehicle did finally stop, three men and a woman inside surrendered.

The woman, 44, told police she had been kidnapped by the group and raped by a fourth man who wasn’t there, said Pomona police Lt. Ronald McDonald.

Investigators tracked down the man in Claremont, where he was arrested later that night at Towne and La Verne avenues. He was identified as Ronald Lundberg, 49. Some of the woman’s stolen items were found inside Lundberg’s house after a search, authorities said.

The three men who were with the woman were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping. They were identified as Carlos Gonzales, 32, Juan Sanchez, 22, and Richard Rodriguez, 29.

All four men are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

The woman appeared to know her assailants, McDonald said.
