Pedestrian struck and killed by car in Highland Park

A pedestrian was killed in Highland Park early Thursday morning when he was hit by a car whose driver lost control of his vehicle, authorities said.

The victim, a male in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department. He was not identified.

After hitting the man at Figueroa Street and Sycamore Terrace, the sedan struck a parked vehicle and a tree and then overturned around 3 a.m., officials said.

The driver was taken to a hospital; his condition was unknown, Herrera said. His identity was not released.
