Man arrested after allegedly firing at LAPD officers during chase

A man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly fired two shots at Los Angeles police officers, prompting a roughly eight-hour search in San Pedro, officials said.

The LAPD officers had been trying to stop the man, whose name hasn’t been released, about 9:25 p.m. at 8th Street and Grand Avenue after they recognized him from a previous run-in with police, Officer Sara Faden said.

But he ran away instead and fired two shots toward the officers, she said.

Police immediately set up a perimeter as SWAT officers and police dogs searched from the man.

Officers were “cautious, careful and strategic” during their search for the shooter, Faden said, especially since he was “brazen enough” to shoot at police.

He was eventually located and arrested early Wednesday.

Details about his arrest were not immediately available.

The man’s arrest comes after a Los Angeles County sheriff’s detective was shot in an arm Tuesday during an investigation at an apartment building in the 12000 block of Santa Fe Avenue.

The suspect in that shooting was killed after he barricaded himself in a nearby residence.
