Police surrounded a Granada Hills home where a suspected pipe bomb, gun and ammunition were found, prompting nearby evacuations Tuesday.

Someone entered the home to clean and called police to report discovering the items about 11 a.m. in the 16000 block of Simonds Street, LAPD Officer Sara Faden said.

Although the items were found, she said “no verbal threat” was made to the residential community.

Still, nearby homes were evacuated as an LAPD bomb squad, firefighters and other officers investigated the scene.

The device was later rendered safe, and residents were allowed to return to their homes, LAPD Officer Jane Kim said. It is unclear whether the device was in fact a pipe bomb, she said.

Kennedy High School, which is less than a mile away from the home, was not under lock down, but police planned to divert traffic to ensure students and staff were safe.
