Family of mountain lions captured on video above Glendora

A family of mountain lions was captured on video by a patient photographer in a rare sighting as they wandered through the Angeles National Forest above Glendora last week.

The four cougars were recorded early Friday in Big Dalton Canyon with surveillance cameras set up by Robert Martinez, who has been tracking the lions for more than two years.

“Wow!!! I did not see this one coming,” he wrote on his blog, Parliament of Owls.

Later that night, a larger cat, which hadn’t been seen in the area for six months, was also spotted.

Martinez told KTLA-TV that his attempts to capture the cougars on video are often unsuccessful.

“There would be weeks where I get nothing but squirrels,” he said.

Some of his cameras, he said, are not far from hiking trails -- about a 10-minute walk.

Earlier this month, a San Jose man got the surprise of a lifetime when his security surveillance camera recorded a mountain lion climbing onto the roof of his car just outside his home.

The video, which went viral, showed the large cat slowly climbing on top of the car, where it stood for a few moments before jumping off.
