Earthquake: 4.2 quake strikes near Coalinga, Calif.

A shallow magnitude 4.2 earthquake was reported Friday morning 6 miles from Coalinga, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 6:30 a.m. PDT at a depth of 6.2 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 19 miles from Avenal, Calif., 32 miles from Lemoore, Calif. and 36 miles from Mendota, Calif.

In the last 10 days, there has been one earthquake of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
