A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy on patrol in Norwalk on Saturday afternoon was involved a shooting that left a person injured, authorities said.

Few details about the incident were available. Shortly after 4 p.m., the deputy fired at and apparently hit the person near the intersection of Fairford Avenue and Foster Road, said Sgt. Mark Wilkening, a supervisor at the sheriff’s Norwalk station.

It was not known what led to the shooting, but a weapon was recovered at the scene, and one person was reported to be wounded, Wilkening said. The person’s condition was not known.

As with all cases in which a deputy shoots a person, detectives from the department’s homicide unit were dispatched to the scene to open an investigation into the deputy’s actions.
