A man was shot in the face and in critical condition in a possible gang-related shooting in Koreatown early Sunday, police said.

The man, whose name has not been released, was shot about 2:10 a.m. near the Jons Marketplace at 3334 W. 8th St., said Sgt. Raul Pedroza with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Olympic Station.

“We believe it’s a gang shooting,” Pedroza said.

Police are “actively searching” for the shooter, and the victim remains hospitalized in “very critical condition,” he said.

The incident is the latest in a string of possible gang-related shootings in recent weeks in Koreatown. Three people have been killed so far this year in the densely populated neighborhood, according to the Homicide Report.

Two men were shot and killed in broad daylight Jan. 20 in the driveway of a parking lot at Lucy’s Laundry Mart at South Normandie Avenue and West 3rd Street, authorities said. Two gunmen walked up to the victims – 24-year-old Alexander Alberto-Rossy Veleche and 19-year-old Jonathan Villamizar -- and shot them multiple times just before 2 p.m., police said.

On Feb. 9, a man was killed and two women were injured in another possibly gang-related shooting near Wilshire Boulevard and Shatto Place.

Clay Allen Casey Sr., 49, of Los Angeles and two women were sitting inside an SUV when a man approached and began shooting at them, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Marvin Mancia told The Times. Casey was pronounced dead at the scene, and the women suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
