Poll: Voters like Feinstein; Villaraigosa's got some issues
No one knows whether U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein even wants to be governor. But a new Field Poll finds that she has by far the best favorability rating among the Democratic field for 2010.
And Mayor Antonio Villaragiosa? The poll finds he's got bigger unfavorable numbers than favorable ones.
But at least he's not Gavin Newsom.
Here are the details:
DIANNE FEINSTEIN: 50% favorable; 39% unfavorable
JERRY BROWN: 34% favorable; 34% unfavorable
ANTONIO VILLARAIGOSA: 28% favorable; 33% unfavorable
GAVIN NEWSOM: 25% favorable; 41% unfavorable
Of course, Newsom was featured (not very flatteringly) in the Proposition 8 ads, with his famous catch phase that gay marriage was legal "whether you like it or not!"
And how about the GOP? Not so good, according to the Mercury News: "At least two-thirds of voters were unable to form an opinion of any of the Republican potential candidates. That can change, though, for two candidates who built their personal fortune in high tech. '[Insurance Commissioner Steve] Poizner and [former EBay Chief Executive Meg] Whitman can be counted on to spend tens of millions of dollars that will help them to become household names,' said GOP consultant Kevin Spillane."
Numbers:
MEG WHITMAN: 17% favorable; 16% unfavorable
TOM CAMPBELL: 14% favorable; 13% unfavorable
The Times' Michael Rothfeld looks at the governor's race already getting underway.

Villaraigosa is a member and supporter of MEChA.
MEChA is an openly racist organization that seeks to cede the U.S. Southwest to Mexico and to deny all non-Mexicans civil rights.
Villaraigosa supports criminal aliens and those that aid and abet them.
Antonio Villaraigosa is a traitor.

Gavin's biggest failing is his open support of illegal Latino gangbangers, and was recently busted for transporting a bunch of them to San Bernardino WITHOUT even telling the officials there.
Why? To help them escape the law, ICE was about to deport them as repeat felons, known gangbanger illegal juveniles. But as San Francisco has for 20 years, the city continued to pa to fly these criminals home to Salvador, Mexico, etc. just ahead of the law. Now, due to budget problems, San Francisco had come up with the idea of dumping them in the Inland Empire at taxpayer expense (in some halfway house program).
This has gone on for 2 decades in San Fran and had some support there, so it wasn't Newsome's idea. BUT he pretended to just learn that he'd been aiding and abetting criminals in defiance of the law, and promised to stop. So, deprived of this pet cause to pander to the Latinos, he turned to Prop 8 as "his" central liberal issue. He's as phony and pandering as his causes.
Newsome's far worse than Villar, who is expected to cater to his Latino base while trying to capture the wary white, Asian and black voters. He's also looked at with skepticism by older, legal Latinos who came here by the rules.
Still, he's not doing anything that Obama and every liberal of every color and stripe hasn't been doing. His positive/ negative numbers aren't that different from Brown's -- who suddenly "discovered" the illegal gang issue as he's preparing to run, and overcome his legacy as a leftwing kook too easy on crime.
Feinstein may be benefiting from working OUT of state, and gets to look more like a leader in Washington. Tony's efforts abroad and in DC are met with loud cries of "stay home!) (as is Bratton or any local official) but that's often unfair, since a provincial pol with no national/ international connections is far less valuable to locals and the profile of LA in business, funding, etc. His work in public schools largely is irrelevant to the middle and upper middle class who foot the bill and want more charters and new schools in THEIR neighborhoods.
Villar's reputation will rise and fall with improving the economy, public safety and "fixing" local problems like gridlock. He's been trying, but this "city" is so many different mini-cities with competing agendas, from the West Valley to East Valley/ Pacoima to East LA to South LA to the increasingly independent-minded westside.
Sometimes a local leader has to just "do" without getting everyone's aproval first, and risk the consequences. Problems Feinstein doesn't have.

I left out the Republican candidates, who although they have almost no name recognition, could all afford to buy it themsevles because they're mostly all very, very rich. If they have a sound economic agenda but are liberal/ moderate enough on social issues (abortion, gay marriage, the environment) they stand a good chance. This state desperately needs a leader who can molify the liberals while improving the economy.
That's no small task, as Arnold's battles have shown: he's alienated the right wing of the Republican party while having to do battle with the most liberal Democrats in the country, intent on increasing social spending, raising taxes and refusing to do anything about illegal immigration, other than combat the feds.
Arnold has ended up having to go it alone, fought off a recall only by caving in to the Democrats -- and now here we are, facing the consequences he'd warned us about but was recalled for trying to fix years ago by slashing spending until there was enough money coming in to pay for them. He's rich and self-confident enough to have weathered the storm, but that's a warning to any Republican who wants to follow in his footsteps. CAN any Republican get enough Dem support in the Assembly to pull it off, even if he/she tires?

I cant stand antonio. I am so sick and tired of the double standard racism that exists. It is so obvious that he is moving against anyone that is not mexican. If he had his way he would open up the gates and let them all in.
The simple fact of the matter is that all of these illegal aliens are bankrupting our state and our contry and they dont give anything back except for the few that actually work, doing jobs that "none of the rest of us want to do".
The answer is simple. First, get Antonio out of office, immediately. Second, DEPORT ANYONE who is here ILLEGALLY. How can they even think of granting immunity.. THESE ARE CRIMINALS, every one of them.

I am a Mexican American U.S. citizen and I do NOT favor Mayor Villaraigosa. He is a very crooked self-serving politician who favors illegal aliens over his true constituents - American citizens. He uses the office of mayor for perks, power, and I suspect for some very corrupt activities. His is a blythe on the Mexican American community. Hear that Antonio? We are on to you.
