Crews battling wildfire near Lake Perris State Recreation Area

A wildfire in Moreno Valley near the Lake Perris State Recreation area had grown to 175 acres late Wednesday night, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The blaze, called the Merwin Fire, was reported at 8:38 p.m. near Merwin Street and Campbell Avenue, according to an incident report from the Riverside County Fire Department. It was initially reported as a 30-acre fire.

The fire department said 240 firefighters were battling the blaze as of 11 p.m. There were no structures threatened or injuries reported.

At least one group camp area in the state park was being evacuated, the fire department said.
