Border Patrol official accused of video voyeurism, lying to investigators
A veteran U.S. Border Patrol supervisor arrested on suspicion of secretly filming female employees undressing and using the toilet has been indicted on charges of video voyeurism and lying to investigators.
The arraignment of Armando Gonzalez, 46, a supervisor in the Chula Vista office, is scheduled for April 2 in San Diego federal court.
Gonzalez “did capture an image of a private area of an individual without their consent” and then lied to investigators, saying that he installed a camera in the women’s restroom when he suspected an employee of taking drugs, according to court documents.
From July 2013 to at least Jan. 9, 300 images were recorded by the camera, which was activated by a motion sensor, prosecutors said.
One of the images shows Gonzalez using a screwdriver to install the camera in a drain in the women’s restroom, according to court documents.
Gonzalez was arrested March 6 in El Cajon and booked into federal jail. He was released on $50,000 bond and remains on leave from his job. He has been ordered by U.S. Magistrate Judge Jill Burkhardt to have no contact with his alleged victims.
The video voyeurism charges are misdemeanors; lying to investigators is a felony.
