A 30-year-old man turned himself in to police Wednesday in connection with the hit-and-run death of a Los Angeles teenager, police said.

Jesus Palomares Jaime Jr. was arrested about 9 a.m. at a South Los Angeles police station on suspicion of striking ReAnna Goss, 17, in the Hyde Park neighborhood, then fleeing, said LAPD Officer Jeffrey Dohlen.

Jaime is being held on $50,000 bail.

Police say that about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jaime struck Goss with his car as she walked in a crosswalk at 48th Street and 9th Avenue. His blue Toyota Camry was found about two miles away.

Goss died at a hospital, according to KTLA-TV Channel 5.

Goss, whom friends called Annie, was a senior at City of Angels School and dreamed of opening a bakery named “Annie’s Pastries” after graduating in May, according to website set up to raise funds for her funeral.

Standing at the corner where the accident occurred -- now the site of a memorial with pink candles and balloons -- Desiree Gill expressed grief and frustration in an interview with KTLA.

“This is happening every single day,” Gill said about her daughter’s death. “I just want to know, what’s the difference between a bullet and a car?”
