A toddler was killed and several others were injured in a Thursday evening car crash in Huntington Beach, police said.

The boy was riding in a car seat in a small compact vehicle when the car collided with a sport utility vehicle in the intersection of Bushard Street and Yorktown Avenue, said Huntington Beach police Lt. Kent Ferrin.

The smaller vehicle spun out and struck a light pole, causing the car to cave in where the boy was sitting, Ferrin said.

The child was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His mother, an older sibling and the driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries, Ferrin said.

Police are still trying to determine what caused the accident, he said.
