David Spade, Ed Sheeran entertain at Rock for EB party

The event: Sunday’s Rock 4 EB featured stars under the stars, plus singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran in a 90-minute concert to benefit the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation (www.ebkids.org), which funds research for EB, a rare and debilitating skin disorder, mostly seen in children.

The program: Following a comedy set by David Spade and a thank-you from foundation Executive Vice President Andrea Joseph — whose son Brandon suffers from EB — Courteney Cox stepped onto the stage to introduce Sheeran, who immediately gave the crowd clearance to celebrate the evening.

“I think as long as you just enjoy yourselves, I will enjoy myself as well,” Sheeran said. “What I find sometimes about these events is people are scared to sing. They’re scared to clap. They don’t know what they’re allowed to do. I just say as long as you feel happy doing it, don’t worry about what the person next to you thinks.”

The scene: As guests mingled on the spacious lawn of a private Malibu residence, food stations served up a you-name-it buffet that included caviar, three types of hot dogs with a choice of seven toppings, veggie burgers, Mexican fare, cupcakes and more. A silent auction lured attendees to the porch, before all eventually settled down inside a clear tent for the show.

The crowd: Familiar faces included Kaley Cuoco (“The Big Bang Theory”), singer Briana Cuoco, Scott Foley (“Scandal”), Sacha Baron Cohen (“The Dictator”), Isla Fisher (“Arrested Developmen”), Ed O’Neill (“Modern Family”), Nina Dobrev (“The Vampire Diaries:), Teri Hatcher (“Desperate Housewives”), Molly Sims (“Las Vegas”), Kevin Nealon (“Weeds”), Laura Dern (“Enlightened”), Randy Jackson (“American Idol”), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Avengers: Age of Ultron”), Sam Taylor-Johnson (director, “Fifty Shades of Grey”), rocker Chris Cornell, model Cindy Crawford and entrepreneur Rande Gerber. Joseph and her husband, Paul Joseph, who is the organization’s chief financial officer, spearheaded the event, along with honorary board member and host Marc Gurvitz.

The numbers: Nearly 500 people turned up for the shindig, buying tickets priced from $1,000 or sponsorships ranging to $25,000. The Josephs estimated this year’s proceeds at $500,000, which adds to the $8 million already raised by these events and additional donations since 2004.
