Christina Ricci is getting another swing of the ax as Lizzie Borden.

On Wednesday, Lifetime announced a limited series follow-up to its hit TV movie, “Lizzie Borden Took an Ax,” based on the real life 1893 double murder trial of the Massachusetts woman.

The sequel series, titled “Lizzie Borden: The Fall River Chronicles,” will follow Borden’s life following her acquittal for the murders of her father and stepmother.

While the TV movie was based on history, the new limited series appears to be veering into pure fiction, as several more people in Borden’s sphere wind up murdered and only a Pinkerton detective, played by Cole Hauser, can hope to finally catch the suspected murderess.

Other cast members include John Heard as Borden’s father’s business partner and Andrew Howard as Borden’s half-brother, William.

The six-hour series is written by Greg Small & Rich Blaney, Barbara Nance, Jason Grote and David Simkins. Judith Verno, who also produced the TV movie, will be executive producer. Stephen Kay, who wrote the original movie, will direct the first two episodes.

The original movie premiered in January to mixed reviews, but a sizable audience, drawing 4.4 million viewers for its first broadcast.
