Syfy renews ‘Dark Matter’ and ‘Killjoys’

Sci-fi space dramas “Dark Matter” and “Killjoys” will be returning for their second seasons, Syfy announced.

Based on the graphic novel by series creators Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, “Dark Matter” follows six people who wake up from stasis on a starship with no memory of who they are, where they came from or how they ended up on the vessel.

“With its mysterious premise and fascinating characters, ‘Dark Matter’ has built an incredibly loyal, passionate and engaged fan base,” said Chris Regina, Syfy’s senior vice president of program strategy.

“Dark Matter” stars Marc Bendavid, Melissa O’Neil, Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr., Jodelle Ferland and Roger Cross as the interstellar amnesiacs and Zoie Palmer as the ship’s android.

“Killjoys,” on the other hand, follows a trio of interplanetary bounty hunters — played by Hannah John-Kamen, Aaron Ashmore and Luke Macfarlane — as they take on missions to chase down and capture criminals throughout a distant planetary system known as the Quad (all while trying to remain neutral in the bloody class war that threatens that system).

“With exciting space-based action, deep world building and a standout cast, ‘Killjoys’ has struck a nerve with viewers and critics alike,” Syfy’s executive vice president of original content, Bill McGoldrick, said.

The 13-episode second season of “Dark Matter” and 10-episode second season of “Killjoys” are both set to premiere in 2016.
