The Whale: Revenge From the Deep This gripping two-hour scripted special revisits the 1820 sinking of the Essex, a New England whaling ship in a sperm whale attack that inspired Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick.” Martin Sheen stars as one of the few survivors of that horrifying episode. 9 p.m. Animal Planet
