‘Better Call Saul’ will get two-night premiere event on AMC

“Breaking Bad” fans have been anxiously awaiting the premiere of “Better Call Saul” since Walter White cooked his last batch of meth in 2013. On Thursday, AMC announced the spinoff series starring Bob Odenkirk’s morally questionable attorney will premiere its first two episodes over two nights.

The show’s first episode will debut on Feb. 8 and its second episode will follow on Feb. 9. The series will then air regularly on Monday nights.

Set six years before the events of “Breaking Bad,” the new series, created by “Breaking Bad’s” Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, will follow the transformation of Jimmy McGill (Odenkirk) a small-time, not-very-successful lawyer, into “Saul Goodman,” the ace attorney of the crime world.

The character arc of McGill/Goodman seems to mirror that of hapless high school chemistry teacher Walter White into crime boss Heisenberg in “Breaking Bad.” However, the tone of “Better Call Saul” appears to be a bit lighter than the earlier series.

Jonathan Banks, known to “Breaking Bad” fans as the crime world fixer Mike, will reprise his role in the new series. New cast members include Michael McKean, Rhea Seehorn, Patrick Fabian and Michael Mando.

The series was given a 10 episode first season, but has already been renewed for a 13 episode second season.
