‘Dancing With the Stars’ results recap: One and done for Lolo Jones

Share

The “Dancing With the Stars” Tuesday night results show is making a brief return for a couple of weeks this season, and we were treated to some backstage footage, oiled up new pros, old pro dancer audition tapes and some salacious stolen kisses during this filler-heavy hour.

We also had to say goodbye to our first couple. Not that the results were all that surprising: Low-scoring Olympic athlete Lolo Jones and her newbie pro partner Keo Motsepe’s clunky cha cha and resulting reaction soured both the hurdler and the crowd, and the voters ultimately deemed Lolo too unsparkly to hold her place in the glitterverse. She and her pro partner were cut out of Mirrorball contention.

But the stone-faced Lolo -- despite being unable to redeem her high school slow-dancing experience -- was able to salvage her “DWTS” experience with her gracious concession speech, ending her 15 minutes of dancing fame on a positive note. “I wouldn’t have had it any other way,” she said of her exit. “Betsey had a malfunction with the boa thing [while] honestly it was steps on my part. She deserves to stay. … Everyone here did a great job.”

Fashion designer/fellow malfunction sufferer Betsey Johnson and Tony Dovolani simmered alongside Lolo and Keo in the bottom two, while Lea Thompson and Artem Chigvintsev and Michael Waltrip and Emma Slater were forced to sweat it out in jeopardy.

But the results show was not all a “spray tan runaway train.” The hour began with a piping hot opening routine from our pro ladies, choreographed by Mandy Moore, and an encore performance of Alfonso Ribeiro and Witney Carson’s smoking hot jive.

Keeping up with the smoke theme, Smokey Robinson stopped by for a visit and crooned a sweetly laconic rendition of “My Girl” featuring Aloe Blacc, while Witney and Mark Ballas swayed it out on the dance floor and shared a platonic kiss.

Speaking of kiss, did you see Janel Parrish and Val Chmerkovskiy lip-lock not once, but twice after their performance on Monday? So that’s where the chemistry comes from.

And we got to see Derek Hough’s highly “entertaining” “DWTS” audition tape from 2006, when he was just 21 and wore his hair like a helmet. “Not much has changed!” Derek exclaimed.

Some more quotes and observations from Tuesday night’s results hour:

“It’s so weird! It’s the results show. I don’t know what to do,” a wide-eyed Jonathan Bennett exclaimed. Preach.

Artem, mentioning that he was wearing purple underwear in honor of Lea’s famous “Back to the Future” Calvin Klein line, was no doubt just what the actress needed to turn out a terrific first routine.

“Age is a matter of mind: If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter,” said Betsey Johnson, who had dreams of becoming a Rockette and said she was doing “DWTS” to “test her limit.” You go, girl.

Favorite line of the night: “I want to go all the way with you,” living hemp Peta Murgatroyd told Tommy Chong earnestly. “That sounds very sexual, but I didn’t mean it like that.”
