Comic-Con begins on Thursday, and what was once a celebration of graphic novels and the films that loved them is now also a celebration of all sorts of terrific television. If you can’t make it to San Diego this weekend, or even if you can, it’s a good time to catch up on, or introduce yourself to, some of the headlining shows.

“Grimm.” Who’d have thought a show exploring an alternative world of mythical creatures called Wesen and the humans who see them, the Grimms, could end in a wedding. And yet, that’s what happened in this year’s season finale, along with a lot of other crazy great — the birth of a purple-eyed baby, the emergence of a hip young female Grimm, a plotting royal family — stuff. A little scary for younger kids, but as family friendly as a monster tale can get. NBC.com

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Never before has a television show attempted to be both part of and separate from a film franchise, providing the connective tissue between blockbusters. If you missed its first season on ABC, catch it on Hulu.

“Orphan Black.” It is never too late to join the clone club and watch Tatiana Maslany bring to life an ever-expanding sisterhood of genetically engineered women all seeking information, and each other. Binge watch on Amazon

“The Walking Dead.” Separated from one another and scattered across the zombie-plagued landscape, Rick, Michonne, Daryl and all the main characters spent a season facing zombies and inner demons, often without the aid of each other. Netflix

“Game of Thrones.” The only flaw in this near-perfect adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s series is the length of time between seasons. Fortunately, you can just start at the beginning and watch the whole thing again on HBO Go.
