Charles Aznavour, 92, to play five North American shows in October

French chanson master Charles Aznavour will tour the U.S. and Canada for a small handful of concerts in October, the 92-year-old singer’s return to North America following a limited tour in 2014.

Aznavour will open the string of five dates on Oct. 15 at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City, and will continue with stops Oct. 18 in Boston, Oct. 21 in Montreal, Quebec, Oct. 25 in Miami and concluding with his performance Oct. 28 at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood.

His discovery in 1946 by French singing star Edith Piaf launched his career, during which the singer and songwriter has often been described as the French Frank Sinatra. Songs he’s written include “Yesterday, When I Was Young,” “La Bohème,” “La Mamma” and “What Makes a Man,” compositions that helped earn him induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

CNN and Time online named him entertainer of the century in 1998. Tickets for “An Evening With Charles Aznavour” will go on sale later this month, with details to be posted on his official website, www.CharlesAznavour.com.

He played just three dates in North America on his 2014 visit, in New York, Montreal and L.A. That broke a 34-year absence from the U.S., which he had last toured in 1979-80.
