Hard rock fans have already emotionally prepared for Mötley Crüe’s dissolution as a touring act. Now they’ll get one last chance for a valediction in black leather.

The bawdy L.A. quartet, one of the defining bands of the Sunset Strip’s ‘80s heyday, has set the date for the last tour stop of its 34-year career. The band will close out its live career this New Year’s Eve at Staples, the last stop on its officially mandated Final Tour.

“We want to say goodbye to as many fans as possible so we added these shows around the holidays,” said bassist Nikki Sixx in a statement. “No better way to spend them than with the people who have supported us over all these years.”

The band previously played the Hollywood Bowl on the same tour last year, but swears that this time is the real farewell to their hometown.

The Times’ Randall Roberts, reviewing their Bowl date, said that “Playing the biggest hits and deeper cuts that the dual-ümlauted band — Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars and Tommy Lee — kick-started a few miles west on the Sunset Strip, the Crüe bid adieu to its many black-clad fans and to Hollywood with a concert that celebrated the pop-metal outfit’s 30-plus-years output.”

One last round of pyro and stripper poles has been a lucrative venture for the band: Last year’s Final Tour dates grossed $45 million and sold almost a million tickets over 72 cities. Alice Cooper will again open for the Crüe at Staples Center.

Pre-sales begin Thursday. While Crüe fans are probably glad to have a last chance to mix their Jack Daniels and mascara tears, they do seem to be getting plenty of extended mileage out of this Final Tour. But we can’t say we blame Tommy Lee for wanting one last ride on that drum riser.
