FYF Fest has three golden-voiced crooners atop its bill this year.

The L.A.-based R&B experimentalist Frank Ocean, the eternal Smiths miserablist Morrissey and the incendiary soul singer D’Angelo & the Vanguard will top this year’s bill at L.A.’s Exposition Park and Sports Arena.

Ocean and D’Angelo in particular are major gets for Sean Carlson’s Goldenvoice-affiliated festival, as each were acts many expected to appear at this year’s Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. Morrissey is, of course, an arena act in his own right and a staple of Los Angeles music culture.

Their bookings prove that FYF is, at least in its talent-buying ambitions, aiming to establish itself as one of the country’s marquee festivals.

The undercard is also especially strong at this year’s fest, which will include sets from FKA Twigs, Solange, the Jesus & Mary Chain, Bloc Party, Health, Tobias Jesso Jr., Spiritualized, Death Grips and Evian Christ among many others.

The two-day event will land Aug. 22-23, with single-day tickets at $109 and weekend passes ranging from $175 to $329.

The now 12-year-old festival originally made its name in punk and noisy rock, but has grown to encompass a variety of music, including metal, electronica and soul. Last year was its first at its new location in Expo Park, which saw both its biggest crowds to date (sold out at 40,000 tickets) but also widespread complaints about its logistics on opening day. The fest underwent a late-night revamp for its second day to much better reviews.

Fans will have ample chance to see if FYF has permanently solved those problems this year. But for now, the lineup leaves very little to gripe about, and a whole lot to celebrate.
