Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica has reopened after a body found on the roadway led to its brief closure early Friday morning.

The highway was opened and a closure on the westbound 10 Freeway at 4th Street was lifted about 8:10 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

“It came down as a possible car collision, but possibly someone fell down from the cliffs,” said Santa Monica Police Sgt. Frank Marnell.

The body was found about 3 a.m. just north of the McClure Tunnel where the freeway transitions to PCH, Marnell said.
