Celebrities dazzled at the Met Gala on Monday night, some looking edgy (Solange Knowles, Rihanna, Zendaya), others just this side of scandalous (Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez), and some more traditionally elegant (Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, Helen Mirren). And some rather whimsical, like Katy Perry in her Moschino gown by Jeremy Scott. The event, an annual benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute, is one of the fashion highlights of the year. From Los Angeles Times reporter Adam Tschorn comes this tidbit: A set of the Von Trapp children’s drapery costumes from “The Sound of Music” (which we told you about here) failed to sell at auction last week, according to representatives for the Nate D. Sanders auction house. The opening bid for the lot – which included a full set of seven costumes – was set at $800,000. A similar set of costumes, part of a larger lot of Hollywood memorabilia, fetched $1.56 million at auction in July 2013.
