ROSTER MOVES: Yasiel Puig was healthy enough to hit in a batting cage but not healthy enough to play Sunday, prompting the Dodgers to place him on the disabled list for the first time in his career. Right-hander Joel Peralta was also placed on the DL with what the Dodgers called a neck strain. Peralta is believed to have a pinched nerve that could be limiting his shoulder strength. Scott Baker, the Dodgers’ starting pitcher for the day, was promoted from triple-A Oklahoma City, along with right-hander Carlos Frias. To clear a place for Baker on the 40-man roster, Brandon League was moved from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL.

ON THE MOUND: Baker was a pleasant surprise in his Dodgers debut, pitching seven innings and limiting the Padres to three runs and four hits. “Overall, physically I felt pretty good,” Baker said. Baker gave up two solo home runs, one to Alexi Amarista in the third inning and another to Derek Norris in the seventh. Norris also doubled in Matt Kemp in the fourth inning.

AT THE PLATE: Alex Guerrero hit his fifth home run of the season, a solo blast off Padres starter Brandon Morrow in the fifth inning. Guerrero had two of the Dodgers’ five hits. Morrow pitched seven innings. No Dodgers reached base over the last two innings, as Joaquin Benoit pitched a perfect eighth and Craig Kimbrel a perfect ninth.
