The 23 members of the Boron High football team are one of three group finalists for a free VIP trip to the Super Bowl on Feb. 1 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. Now they need lots of votes to make it happen.

Starting Friday, fans can vote for the team at Togetherwemakefootball.com.

Here’s the link to a story about Boron.

Boron is located in the Mojave Desert and has a high school of 164 students. There’s miles and miles of desert and one green football field.

“It’s kind of by Edwards Air Force Base,” Coach Timothy Seaman said. “We have the biggest borax mine in the world.”

On Friday morning, Seaman, 32, and team captains Keith Core and Cody Parker appeared on NBC’s Today show to tell their story. Seaman took a photo with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

The threesome left Wednesday via a car service, driven some three hours to LAX, then took a red-eye to New York.

Core and Parker had never flown before. Both captains had never been in a taxi, so taking one to Times Square was also on the agenda.

Seaman is the one who entered the team in the contest last summer, writing an essay and submitting photos. He didn’t hear back until October that his team might be selected. Then this month, NFL Films sent out a crew from New Jersey to spend three days in Boron, and the team was informed it was a finalist. Former USC and NFL running back Marcus Allen dropped by to surprise and inform everyone.

Voting will go until early January. If Boron wins, the organizers won’t need a whole lot of seats on a plane to Phoenix.

“They could send a bus,” Seaman said. “I’ll ride my bike if I have to.”

California is the most populous state in the U.S., so if everyone votes, Boron is a sure bet to win. Now, if only Seaman can get everyone to vote.
