Twitter users respond to ‘Suge’ Knight arrest

Share

Rap mogul Marion “Suge” Knight has had his share of trouble with the law, with Thursday’s fatal driving incident and his subsequent arrest on suspicion of murder being just one in a long line of allegations and convictions associated with the Death Row Records co-founder.

Though the mogul’s name is trending in Los Angeles on Twitter, few celebrities have taken to social media to talk about the incident in which, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says, he ran over two men in a parking lot in Compton, killing one of them.

“The Breakfast Club” radio host and TV personality Charlamagne Tha God took to Twitter on Thursday night alluding to some of Knight’s past legal trouble.

“Suge Knight definitely got Roots on him… It’s a chicken foot buried somewhere with his name on it,” the “Guy Code” star tweeted, drawing on the age-old idea about people who practice folk magic casting vexing spells on their enemies.

Knight’s run-ins with the law include the 1996 fatal shooting of rapper Tupac Shakur by unknown gunmen when he was a passenger in Knight’s BMW while Knight was driving in Las Vegas, and a 1997 nine-year sentence for violating the terms of his probation from an earlier assault case. In 2008, he was also arrested in Las Vegas on suspicion of drug possession and aggravated assault. The next year, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery.

Most recently, Knight and two others were shot in August inside a crowded West Hollywood nightclub at a Chris Brown-hosted party.

Charlamagne’s “Guy Code” co-star Desus Nice showed how he felt about the news, imagining a conversation between Satan and Knight.

“‘Fam u gonna chill or nah?’ - Satan talking to Suge Knight,” the comedian tweeted.

Hip-hop producer Just Blaze sent his condolences via the social media site to one of the victims who had been killed: “RIP to the hit and run victim,” he tweeted.

But for as many celebrities who have elected not to say anything, countless other Twitter users aren’t letting up.

Another tweet riffed on by Twitter users included one by comedian Faith Choyce.

“If you say ‘Death Row’ three times into the bathroom mirror, Suge Knight will appear & run you over while eating leftovers from your fridge,” she tweeted.

Knight is being held in Los Angeles’ Men’s Central Jail on $2-million bail. According to his lawyer, he did not know he had run over and killed someone.
