Police have arrested a 41-year-old man suspected of fatally stabbing his girlfriend in a truck in Van Nuys then concocting a story about how the couple had been attacked, authorities said.

Osmar Gomez was arrested on suspicion of murder after police investigating the stabbing couldn’t corroborate his account that three men in a black truck had attacked the couple, police said Friday at a news conference.

Police said Gomez called police shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday to report that he had been stabbed along with his girlfriend, Klaudia Yemina Alas, in the 6600 block of Kester Avenue in Van Nuys.

Gomez was bleeding from his neck outside his black Dodge truck in an alley when police arrived. Alas, 32, was lying motionless on the right side of the truck. Emergency staff pronounced her dead at the scene.

Police canvassed the neighborhood and found no evidence to corroborate the account of the three men or the black car. At around 9 p.m., police arrested Gomez, said Los Angeles police Capt. Lillian Carranza.

Police said Gomez had a history of domestic abuse, but would not provide additional details about the crime.

Alas was a mother of three.

“We will never get our daughter back,” the woman’s father, Sergio Acajabon told reporters.

Anyone with additional information about the stabbing is asked to call LAPD detectives at (818) 374-0040.
