Boys’ basketball: A 45-point performance by Michael Oguine

It took a 45-point performance from Michael Oguine to enable Chaminade to hold off Village Christian, 77-74, in a quarterfinal game of the San Fernando Valley Invitational on Saturday night.

Monday’s semifinals at Alemany will match Chaminade taking on Crespi at 5:30 p.m. and Alemany facing Cathedral at 7. Crespi defeated Saugus, 59-37. De’Anthony Melton scored 19 points. Alemany defeated Canyon, 59-28. Shacquille Dawkins had 25 points and 10 assists. Cathedral defeated Crescenta Vlley, 70-42.

In Las Vegas, Redondo won its divisional championship with a 66-51 win over Putnam City. Billy Preston and Leland Green were named co-tournament MVPs. Davon Edmonds had 18 points and 12 rebounds in Long Beach Poly’s 66-59 win over Foothills Christian in a consolation final. Sedrick Barefield scored 22 points but Corona Centennial was beaten by Bishop Gorman, 71-51. Huskies trailed by five points with three minutes left.

In Florida, Santa Ana Mater Dei was beaten by North Carolina Wesleyan Christian, 67-62, in the City of Palms tournament. Rex Pflueger had 26 points for the Monarchs, who went unbeaten last season and suffered their first defeat.

In the championship game of the Inland Empire Classic, Etiwanda defeated Rancho Cucamonga, 63-41. Delewis Johnson had 19 points and Kameron Edwards added 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Simi Valley defeated North Hollywood, 58-55, in overtime. Michael Kalu had 24 points in Granada Hills’ 61-41 win over St. Genevieve. Chatsworth defeated Kennedy, 61-50, in overtime. Agoura defeated Grant, 65-42. Niccolai Golshan scored 16 points in Milken’s 52-47 win over Verdugo Hills.

Servite defeated Lakewood, 60-46. Trevor Treinen scored 32 points. Freshman Brendan Harrick had 18 points. Santa Margarita defeated Tesoro, 61-48.

Price defeated Corona del Mar, 66-55. Roderick Williams and LaRond Williams made all-tournament at the Westminster tournament.

Buckley defeated Eagle Rock, 78-43. Kihwi Clark had 23 points and Mike Meadows had 22.

In the Mission Prep tournament, Bishop Montgomery defeated Taft, 81-35.
