Dodgers edge Padres, 2-0, behind gem from Mike Bolinger

KEY MOMENT: Yangervis Solarte, the Padres’ leadoff batter, hit the fourth pitch of the game for a single. That was the only baserunner allowed by Dodgers starter Mike Bolsinger. The Padres’ second batter, Cory Spangenberg, grounded into a double play. Bolsinger faced 24 batters, giving up the Solarte single and retiring the final 23 batters to face him.

AT THE PLATE: For the third time this season, rookie Joc Pederson led off the game with a home run. The Dodgers added an insurance run in the sixth inning when Adrian Gonzalez singled and, for the first time in four tries this season, scored from first base on a double. Justin Turner had the double.

ON THE MOUND: Bolsinger extended his string of consecutive scoreless innings to 19. He set career highs by pitching eight innings and striking out eight batters, again with no pitch hitting 90 mph. He has a 3-0 record and a 0.71 earned-run average, the lowest of any major league pitcher with at least 25 innings. Kenley Jansen worked a perfect ninth for the save.

ROSTER NEWS: The Dodgers put catcher Yasmani Grandal on the seven-day concussion disabled list and recalled catcher Austin Barnes from triple-A Oklahoma City. Mattingly called the injury a “mild concussion” but said the Dodgers wanted to be safe even if Grandal could have played in two or three days. Grandal was rocked twice while catching Friday’s game, hit on the side of the head by a swing in the third inning and hit on the mask by a foul ball in the fourth inning. He left after four innings Barnes, 25, who figures to make his major league debut Sunday, was acquired with reliever Chris Hatcher and utilityman Enrique Hernandez in the trade that sent second baseman Dee Gordon and pitcher Dan Haren to the Miami Marlins. Barnes batted .290 with three home runs in 29 games at Oklahoma City. He had struck out only once in his last 50 plate appearances The Dodgers lost triple-A left-handed reliever Eury De La Rosa to the Padres on a waiver claim.
