Momentum seems to be building for Tiger Woods to be selected for the U.S. Ryder Cup team.

Jack Nicklaus offered his vote of support during a conference call on Thursday, saying: “I couldn’t imagine him not being on a Ryder Cup team, unless he does absolutely nothing in recovering from his game between now and then.”

Woods has missed much of this season after undergoing back surgery in March. Since returning to competition, he has struggled in two recent tournaments.

Still, the U.S. Ryder Cup captain, Tom Watson, feels the pressure to put Woods on the roster.

“The decision will be mine and mine alone,” Watson said earlier this week at a news conference for the Senior Open. “And it’s hard not to pick Tiger.”

Woods must play well in two scheduled events -- the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and the PGA Championship -- to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Failing to make golf’s postseason would leave him sitting at home for weeks before the Ryder Cup begins in late September.
