Is Michael Sam headed to the Dallas Cowboys practice squad?

Share

The story of Michael Sam, the first openly gay player drafted into the NFL, is not over.

After being cut by the St. Louis Rams despite a solid preseason performance -- including a huge sack on Cleveland Brown Johnny Manziel -- Sam is headed to Dallas, according to multiple credible NFL insiders.

Sam, formerly of the University of Missouri, will take a physical for the Cowboys Wednesday, and if all goes well, the team is anticipating signing Sam to the practice squad, according to reports.

Sam, 24, had 11 tackles and 2½ sacks during the preseason.

After he was cut by the Rams, NFL analysts said teams may not be interested in Sam because of all the media attention that comes with him, despite his skills.

As of 3 p.m., Tuesday, the Cowboys had yet to formally comment on the situation.
