IATSE and producers reach a new deal

The union representing Hollywood’s technical workers has reached an agreement with the studios on a new three-year contract.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers announced they had negotiated a tentative agreement on a new film and TV contract for grips, cinematographers, set decorators, prop makers and other crew members who work behind the camera.

The contract, which must still be ratified by members, covers nearly 40,000 workers. It takes effect Aug. 1 and expires July 31, 2018.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but the deal is said to include similar pay increases as those negotiated by the Writers Guild of America, the Directors Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA.

“I am pleased we were able to reach an agreement that provides industry stability and meaningful terms and benefits to the membership,” IATSE International President Matthew Loeb said in a statement.

AMPTP President Carol Lombardini said: “our member companies can immediately begin planning production for the future with certainty.”
