Tasting of the Week: Wally’s Napa/Sonoma All-Stars on Sunday

Share

Sunday afternoon is reserved for the annual Wally’s Napa/Sonoma All-Stars Wine Tasting at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Century City.

This is the chance to taste wines from nearly 150 top California wineries. Most have their winemakers or owners in attendance, not always a given at wine tastings. The impressive lineup includes Chateau Montelena, Dominus, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Opus One, Heitz Cellars and Joseph Phelps from the old guard, and that’s just to name a few.

The cream of the newer wineries will be represented too. You’ll be able to meet the people behind Bedrock, Lutum, the Mascot, Devil Proof and many others — and taste the wines, many of which have limited distribution.

Cowgirl Creamery in Marin County and Bellwether Farms in Sonoma County will be providing the cheeses. And the kitchen staff from Wally’s Vinoteca in Beverly Hills will be offering small bites to keep everybody’s strength up. Dessert is chocolate from Woodblock Chocolate in Portland, Ore., the better to pair with some of these great reds.

The cost for the tasting is $95 online, over the phone or in the store until 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening. After that, the price goes up: Day-of-event admission is $125 at the door only.
